The launch of Ibrahim Ali Khan, the son of Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, was one of the most highly anticipated debuts in recent memory. Given his lineage, charming looks, and strong resemblance to his famous father, a considerable amount of hype surrounded his entry into the Hindi film industry.
Media and fans alike eagerly awaited the arrival of the next big star kid, ready to embrace him with open arms. However, this massive pre-release buzz quickly turned into a flood of criticism following the debut of his film, Naadaniyan.
The Crash of the 'Naadaniyan' Hype
Naadaniyan, a romantic comedy backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, was intended to be the grand showcase for Ibrahim Ali Khan, alongside co-star Khushi Kapoor. Unfortunately, the film, which was released directly on a streaming platform, failed to live up to the sky-high expectations. Critics and audiences overwhelmingly panned the movie, labeling it as "unwatchable" and a poor attempt at a "new-age" romantic comedy.
The core reasons for the negative reception were widespread. Many viewers criticized the weak performances of the lead pair, noting a significant lack of chemistry and on-screen presence. Beyond the actors, the film was brutally trolled for its "cringe" dialogues, unconvincing plot, and overall poor execution.
The script was deemed shallow, and the movie struggled to connect with its target audience, quickly becoming a talking point on social media for all the wrong reasons. The initial excitement for Ibrahim's launch evaporated almost overnight, replaced by an intense wave of trolling and disappointment.
Ibrahim himself later admitted in an interview that the hype surrounding him "dropped real bad" and that he had been "trolled non-stop" after the film's release. He even candidly confessed that he felt he had rushed into the project and acknowledged that Naadaniyan was a "really bad film."
Karan Johar's Stance and the Aftermath
Filmmaker Karan Johar, whose banner produced the film, initially presented Naadaniyan with great enthusiasm. He introduced the film by saying it would showcase a "new face of romance" and promised "true chemistry" between the debutants, asserting that the film would give viewers the "FOMO of being young again." This statement highlighted Johar's belief in the project and his commitment to launching the new talent.
However, Ibrahim Ali Khan's public admission that Naadaniyan was a "really bad film" reportedly caused friction. Sources close to the filmmaker suggested that Johar was reportedly upset by Ibrahim's unreserved criticism of his own debut film, especially since Johar had not only produced the film but also kept his promise to launch the actor.
