Farah's marriage to editor-director Shirish Kunder happened later in life, and she was in her forties when the couple began trying to conceive. Farah said, "I failed twice in IVF. I used to just be crying and crying. It's also because of the hormones that are pumped in. I used to cry at the drop of a hat. And I was also shooting 'Om Shanti Om' at the same time."

The weight of an unsuccessful cycle, coupled with the pressure of directing a large-scale film with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, meant she was often going through heartache and tears behind the scenes, contrasting sharply with the energy needed on a film set.
