Ravindra Gautam the director of film Ajey said "The selflessness in Yogi ji made me a fan!"

Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi which released today starting Anant Joshi in the lead is buzzing with majorly positive reviews and response amongst the target audience. The film based on The Monk Who Became a Chief Minister by Shantanu Gupta is based on the life of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. 

In an interview to a web portal, the director of Ajey Ravindra Gautam spoke about how he was approached to direct the film, how Anant got cast and how the vibe helped the film and the cast and crew during the filming. 

He spoke how he got inspired to make the biopic around CM Yogi. He said to me he looked like an apt character. Ravindra told that his journey is amazing from how a 22 year old boy became a sanyasi and at the age of 26 he became the youngest member of the Parliament. 

He told it's an inspiring journey to capture on the screen. This idea was actually God sent. He told the producers are from US where Yogi follows immense popularity. They acquired the rights to the book and came in India to make a film. And that is where they approached me. I had already read the book and found him quite a fascinating and inspiration person to make a film on. 

He also spoke about the difficulties came in the way to interpret a real person's image on the silver screen and said that person is real and you can't misinterpret him in anyway, especially when the stature of the person is so huge. So there were challenges in properly depicting his life and situations. Thats where we spent the time in writing the script. 

Ravindra told that he went to his home village in Uttarakhand. Spoke to his family and friends. He informed that this is not a political film but we studied a lot of political videos to understand him as a person. As we didn't got the chance to meet him. 

He also told that they met his sister who still sells flowers outside the temple. He even compared how when a politician become MLAs and MPs their lifestyle changes but it didn't happened with CM Yogi and with his family. 

The director of Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami also revealed that the CM still lives in a 10×12 room, which has only a dari, a takht and four simple clothes. The selflessness in him made me a fan. And that's where I got inspired to make this film. 

He also revealed one notion attached to CM of being a strong headed person but told that actually deep inside he is a very sensitive person who cares for a common man. His sensitivity is what helped wipe out the mafia. He only appears to be a hard hearted person but the reality is very afar from it. 

The director even clarified that this is not a propaganda film. He questioned the stance of audiences who even without watching a film like this regard them as a propaganda film which according to him is not correct. As he think a film should be judge on its merit alone. 

He informed that it's a family drama with emotionality and spirituality at its core. Which will showcase a mother's sacrifice that gave us Yogi ji. Ravindra informed that about how he cast Anant in the film. He went on to spoke and said we auditioned many actors. But we wanted someone true to his heart and sensitive. A sensitive person naturally conveys anger against injustice. And I found all that in Anant. 

He narrated the atmosphere while shooting on the set. The film is shot on live locations in Rishikesh and Dharamshala. He said if the call time was 7, and you arrived at 6, there would already be aarti, bhajans and prayers by the Ganga. It created a sense of calmness that helped my film. He also said that one one ate non-veg on the set as well as outside during the shooting of the film.
